Field Trip News

Our field trip is rapidly approaching. Remember that our field trip is Friday, May 2, 2008 and we will be leaving school at 6:00 am and returning here at school at 6:00 pm. We have a lot of activities planned while at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Please be sure that you are getting prepared for the field trip by looking at the link for the Franklin Institute so you can see what you will be encountering. I am looking forward to the trip, and I hope you are as well.

Reading MSA

The reading MSA is now over and I feel very confident that all of you students tried your best. As I walked around I could see everyone trying hard to answer all the questions to the best of their ability, and as a teacher that is all that I can ask for. Remember that the Math MSA is quickly approaching and I will need for you to work as hard if not harder on this test. I know that you guys can all receive very high scores on the math test.

Keep on Keepin' On

I know that during this time of the school year students begin to give up a little bit and realize that school is almost over so they feel they do not need to work as hard. I want to let you know that this is the most important time for you since you are going into Midddle School. This is the time you need to focus mentally on your school work in order to prepare yourself for Middle School. There is only about a term and a half left, so I want you to work as hard as possible during that time. I want all my students to go into Middle School feeling like they have succeeded. Please continue to try your best everyday.

Parent Conference Day

On Monday February 25 for parent conference day I will only be here at school between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:30 pm. The reason for this is I have to go to class by 5:30 that evening. Field Trip News

The field trip for the fifth grade will happen on May 2, 2008 as most of you know. The money for the trip is not due until the 31st of March, but I have said to the students that the sooner they get it in the less likely they will forget about it and the less likely they will have to worry about it as the trip approaches. The trip is $40.00 per student and $40.00 per chaperone. I only have room for four more chaperones at this point. It is first come first serve on the chaperones. So, as soon as possible please send in the money for your student.

Homework for this weekend is:
1. Read 20 minutes every night. This includes tonight, Saturday night, and Sunday night.
2. Spelling - Write your new words three times each.
3. Essay - Begin or continue to work on your essay. Remember this essay is about what America means to you. You can write about the country, you can write about freedom, or you can just write about what it means to be an American.
4. Reading Group - read chapter 6 of "Bridge to Terabithia"

Lunch for Monday, January 14 is Beef and Cheddar or Tuna Salad on Wheat.

American Revolution Links

If you look to the side bar on the left of the page you will see some new links. These links will take you to something that we have talked about in class about the American Revolution. I will be adding to these links as we go through the American Revolution unit.

Homework for tonight is:
1. Read for 20 minutes.
2. Math - study your review sheet for the test on fractions tomorrow.
3. Social Studies - Study your review sheet for the quiz on the American Revolution for your quiz.
4. Begin your essay on "What American Means to You." Your essay is due back to me by January 18, which is next Friday.
5. Reading Group - read chapter 5 of "Bridge to Terabithia"

Tonights homework is:
1. Read for 20 minutes.
2. Math - complete a worksheet on fractions for review before Friday's test.
3. Spelling - Take a practice test on your words from someone at home. Be sure that the words are written down and brought in.
4. Reading Group - Read chapter 4 of "Bridge to Terabithia"

Tomorrow for lunch is Mozzarella Sticks or Bologna Sandwich.

1. Read for 20 minutes.
2. Math - fractions lesson 8 pages 39 - 40
3. Spelling - write your 5 challenge words in a paragraph. If you do not have the challenge words you need to just pick five words and write them in a paragraph.
4. Reading group read chapter 3 of "Bridge to Trabithia."

New Sites

On the side bar there are some new sites that you may look at. The first set is from my trip to New York City. There are some places that I visited while in the city I thought you might want to check out. The next set of links are for educational purposes. The one site is about the revolutionary war and it is good to look at for you to get a head start on some facts about the war. So enjoy the new sites and stay posted I will be adding more every so often.
