Happy Holidays
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you. Hope you are enjoying your holiday break and you are doing all your reading each night. Reading Group do not forget that your project is due the day we return from break. Check back on the website after the 29th, I will post some pictures from my vacation in New York City.

Homework for December 21, 2007
Homework for the holiday break is:
1. Read for 20 minutes every night of the break. That means you need to write down what you read and how much you read for every single night over the holiday break.
2. Reading Group: During the holiday break you need to complete your animal research project. The project is due on the day we get back January 2nd.
3. Visit www.aaamath.com or www.eduplace.com to keep up on your skills over the holiday break.

Read-A-Thon
Remember that the Read-A-Thon is tomorrow and we are going to read to the kindergarten class in the afternoon. If you would like to bring in something to read to them from home you are more than welcome to. You can bring in magazines, books, newspapers, or anything else that you would like to read during the day. Remember that the kindergarteners will love to listen to anything that you read to them. Bring in something that you might have liked to listen to as a young child.

2. Study for your math test by going over your concept practice that we did together in class.
3. Bring in books, pillows, blankets, and other things that you would like to read for the Read-A-Thon tomorrow.
4. Reading Group: Work on your animal projects from the story Hatchet. If you can and would like to you may finish them at home and bring the in after Christmas break. If not I will do one more day in the computer lab and your project will be due on January 3rd the day after we get back from break.

Reading Group Project
Today we began our project on researching an animal that Brian faces during his challenge in the wilderness. At home you may search on your own using whatever means you wish such as Internet, books, encyclopedias, etc... in order to complete the note taking process. On Wednesday and Thursday of this week you will write your papers about the animal you reasearched as a word document in the computer lab. So the more reaserch you have the more you will be able to write when we go to the computer lab.

3. Spelling: Take a pre-test from someone at your house in order to prepare you for tomorrow's test. Be sure to bring this pretest into class with you on Wednesday.

5. Reading Group: Read chapters 17 - 18 and be prepared for a quiz.

Book Fair
Dear Parents,

Reading Group
Today we did not get to complete the Hatchet quiz. On Monday we will have a quiz on only chapters 13 and 14 but we will talk about all 4 chapters 11 - 14. So make sure that you read all the chapters of Hatchet before you come to class on Monday. Remember that reading the book Hatchet can count towards your 20 minutes of reading every night. Have a good weekend.

Reading Group
Do not forget tomorrow that my reading group has a test on the Paul Revere story as well as a quiz on chapters 11 and 12 of Hatchet. Please make sure that you read all of Hatchet before coming to class tomorrow. Remember that I am giving you time to read over the Paul Revere story before taking your test.
New Site
The site www.eduplace.com is a great site for you to look at to concentrate and study certain subject areas. I would like for you to click on the student tab and go into games. Click on the spelling match game and follow the directions. It is very fun and educational.

On this site you can play around with your math skills. I want you to check out the division portion of the site. First you need to go to www.aaamath.com and click on fifth grade. Then you click on division, then division again. Next click on explore then division one more time. Then click on divisiblity and work thorugh some of the problems. Play the game countdown at the bottom of the page. This will test your skills on the divisibility rules.
